She looked down at my hand (at that point the left hand was particularly affected) and then impulsively reached out, holding onto my hand, saying in a shocked tone: “It looks like the hand of a dead person”.
I practice the piano every day, and sometimes I feel tired, but I still want to keep playing, because then I can play all kinds of different songs. I think this is very fun and interesting.

When I was a child, I developed a stutter which continued into adulthood, constantly depriving me of proper self-expression and the freedom of speaking.
I prepared two pieces, and placed…. in none of them. Even worse, I had a memory issue for one of my pieces – my left hand just went blank! Be it nerves or lack of practice, I tasted bitter regret, and drove back repeatedly listening to Kendrick Lamar’s “Swimming Pools”.
I stopped playing during high school when coursework became too intense, like most of my friends in China who played piano did. After which I was reluctant to pick it up again thinking I’d become too lousy, but the itch for playing again one day was always there.
”When did you first start playing the piano?“ ”At three years old.“
”What do you love the most about piano?“ ”I love the sound of piano. Playing piano makes me happy.”
Unlike others, I started studying piano sort of late, at 13 years old. But I’ve never found it to be a problem. I was psychologically more ready to learn at a later age, so starting at a more mature age has its advantages.
When I became a mother, I shifted my focus to motherhood and practicing so many hours straight wasn’t as much of a priority.
