Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information Piano League collects on thepianoleague.com, why, and the choices you have. Piano League® is owned and operated by Piano League LLC (“we”, “us”). We keep what we collect to a minimum, and we do not sell personal information.

What we collect

When you browse

We keep simple, first-party visit counts so we can see how the site is doing: which section was viewed, the kind of site that sent you (for example a search engine or a shared link), and your browser’s language setting. These counts are not tied to your name or account and use no cookies. To avoid counting you twice, your browser stores a small note of the day you last visited.

We also use Google Analytics, which sets cookies and receives your IP address and basic device information. Our web host and spam protection services also see standard request data such as IP address and browser type.

Piano League Play without an account

You can play every game without signing up. Your progress, stars and settings are saved in your own browser. If you put a score on a daily board, we give your device a random guest code (we only store a scrambled version of it) and a generated player name, such as “Andante Penguin 94”. Guests never type a name, so no real names appear on those boards.

Piano League Play accounts

Accounts are for players 13 and older. Before you sign up, we ask for your birth month and year to check your age. We don’t send it to our servers or store it with your account. If you create one, we store your email address, your password (encrypted), the username and avatar you choose, and your game progress: stars, levels, badges and scores. Your username, avatar and scores can appear on public leaderboards. You can hide yourself from leaderboards in your account settings.

Things you choose to share or submit

• Shared results. When you share a game result, we save the result image and a short title on our server so the link shows a preview. Anyone with the link can see it.
• Polls. We count your answer and the group you pick (for example teacher, student or parent). Results are shown only as totals.
• Community questions and game ideas. We keep what you write and your username. Once approved, they are public.
• Contact form. We keep your name, email address and message so we can reply.
• Newsletters and notifications. If you sign up for email updates or browser notifications, we keep your email address or notification subscription until you unsubscribe.
• Comments. Where comments are open, we keep your name, email address, comment, IP address and browser type. Your comment is public.

Piano League Find

Find lists piano teachers, schools, studios, tuners, movers and venues. Listings contain business information only: name, city, website and a short description, either submitted by the business or taken from its own public website. We do not list private phone numbers or home addresses of individuals. If you submit or claim a listing, we keep your email address to confirm it and to let you manage the listing. Anyone can ask us to correct or remove a listing about them.

Piano League Studio

If you use Studio as a teacher, we store what you add: your studio name and settings, and your students' and families' names, contact details, lesson times, rates, attendance and invoices. We use it only to run Studio for you, for example to show your schedule and to email invoices to families on your behalf. We never sell it or use it for advertising.

• Families who receive an invoice see only that invoice. Payment pages are private links and are not shown in search engines.
• Card payments go through Stripe. We don't see or store card numbers. Stripe shares payment status with us so invoices can be marked paid.
• Importing students: when you paste a list, upload a file or photo, or connect a calendar, the content is sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) to turn it into a student list. It is not used to train AI models, and we keep only the students you choose to save.
• Google Calendar: if you connect Google Calendar, we ask for read-only access, read your events once to find repeating lessons, keep only the lesson details you save, and then remove our access. We don't store the rest of your calendar. Our use of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
• Your private calendar link shows your lesson times to anyone who has it. You can ask us to reset it.

How we use information

• To run the site, including Play, leaderboards, Find and shared links.
• To reply to messages and confirm submissions.
• To understand which parts of the site people use, so we can improve them.
• To prevent spam, cheating and abuse.
• To send newsletters or notifications, only if you signed up.

Who we share it with

We do not sell or rent personal information. We use a small number of services that process data for us:

• Bluehost, which hosts the website.
• Google, for Analytics and web fonts.
• YouTube, for embedded videos. Where we can, we use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode, but YouTube may still collect data when you play a video.
• CleanTalk, which checks form submissions for spam.
• Our email and notification providers, if you subscribe.

When you use a share button for Facebook, X, LinkedIn or WhatsApp, that service handles your post under its own privacy policy. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

For Studio, we share information with Stripe, to process card payments and subscriptions; with Anthropic, to read student lists you import; and with Google, only if you connect Google Calendar.

Children

Many of our games are made for young pianists, and we designed them to work without personal information. Children under 13 can play as guests, and guests only appear under generated player names. We do not knowingly create accounts for, or collect personal information from, children under 13. If you are a parent and believe your child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

How long we keep it

We keep account information while your account is open. Daily leaderboard scores and shared result images may stay on the site as part of the game history. Contact messages are kept as long as needed to handle them. Visit counts are kept only as totals.

Your choices

• Change your username, avatar or leaderboard setting in your account.
• Ask us for a copy of your personal information, or ask us to correct or delete it, including closing your account.
• Unsubscribe from emails with the link in any email, and turn off notifications in your browser.
• Clear your browser’s site data to remove guest progress and visit notes, and block analytics cookies in your browser settings.

Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under local law. We will honor them. To make a request, use our contact form or email info@thepianoleague.com.

Security

We use secure connections (HTTPS), encrypted passwords and limited admin access. No website can promise perfect security, so please use a password you do not use elsewhere.

Visitors from outside the United States

Our website is run from the United States. If you use it from another country, your information will be processed in the United States.

We will post any changes on this page and update the date at the top.
