The XVIII International Chopin Piano Competition Announces Qualified Pianists

The 18th International Chopin Piano Competition, which will be held in Warsaw October 2-23, 2021, has announced the 87 pianists who qualify to compete in the main competition this fall. Over 500 applicants submitted recordings and 164 of those applicants were chosen for the Preliminary round of the competition. The 87 pianists announced today were chosen from the 151 applicants who participated in the Preliminary round earlier this month.

The 87 pianists who are moving on to the main competition in October were chosen from China, Poland, Japan, South Korea, Italy, Armenia, Canada, Chinese Taipei, Cuba, Latvia, Russia, Thailand, USA, United Kingdom, and Vietnam.

Kamil Pacholec ‒ Poland (2nd prize, Bydgoszcz 2019)
Piotr Pawlak ‒ Poland (1st prize, Darmstadt 2017 and 2nd prize, OKP Warsaw 2020
Yutong Sun ‒ China (2nd prize, Santander 2018)
Tomoharu Ushida ‒ Japan (2nd prize, Hamamatsu 2018)
