37-year-old Russian Pianist Wins 2020 “City of Vigo” Piano Competition

The International Piano Competition: “City of Vigo” just wrapped up its fourth competition season and its winners were announced on October 19, 2020. 37-year-old Russian Pianist Alexei Petrov was awarded the First Prize, which includes 2000 euros in cash, 900 euros to participate in the Piano Festival of Costa Rica, as well as concert tours in Spain.

The Second Prize awards, which includes 2000 euros in cash and 750 euros to participate in the Piano Festival of Costa Rica, went to 27-year-old pianist Timofey Dolya from Russia and 53-year-old pianist Fabio Romano from Italy.

The Third Prize awards, which includes 1000 euros in cash and 500 euros to participate in the Piano Festival of Costa Rica, went to 21-year-old pianist Ido Zeev from Israel and 16-year-old pianist Marta Papoian from Poland.

The wide range of ages of the winners are partly due to the unique no-age-limit rule of the competition.

The following additional awards were also awarded:

“Rosa Sabater” Award (best Spanish pianist): Pedro López Salas, Spain

“Crisóstomo Arriaga” Award (best participant under 20 years old): Marta Papoian, Poland

“Martín Códax” Award: Ido Zeev, Israel

“Marcial del Adalid” Award (best performer of a work of a Spanish composer): Pedro López Salas
